Meet Missy Cramer – Owner of the Summerville Location. I come from a family of DIYers: my Grandmother was an amazing seamstress and crafter, growing up I would go to craft shows with her, it was like the pre-internet version of Pinterest, she would get all kinds of ideas and go home and make them. My father was and is always working on something around the house, on any given day it could be constructing and planting a garden, building a deck, shed, barn, table, stools, doll furniture or anything else needed around the house; no challenge is too big for him to tackle and finish with amazing quality and detail. My mom is a crafter de-jour she sews, crochet’s, decorates, paints and so much more; most recently she is making my daughter American girl doll clothes and accessories, crocheting home decor as well as hats for family and charity and gnomes made from socks! Growing up surrounded by DIY it’s no surprise that I love it as well. I’m always looking for new decorating ideas, fun things to do with the kids and even the pets benefit from my DIY!
I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire. After graduating from high school I attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) where I earned a BS in Biochemistry and Biology. Afterwards I earned a MS in Biology from the University of South Carolina. I’ve worked as a scientist at Purdue University, Dow AgroSciences, Cardinal Health and Arkley Biotek, all of which are in Indiana. When the opportunity to move back to South Carolina presented itself I took this as a chance to pursue small business ownership and thus began the road to opening a Nailed It DIY Studio in Summerville.
I met my husband, Kevin, while we both attended Virginia Tech. We have two amazing kids, Hannah and Wyatt. They certainly keep us busy, Hannah is involved in gymnastics, choir, ukulele and tennis and Wyatt enjoys playing outside, legos and anything created by Nerf. We enjoy exploring all there is to do in the Low Country, visiting family and time at the beach.
Connection to Community:
While we only moved to Summerville in 2019 we fell in love with the Low Country many years ago when Kevin was stationed as Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter. I had the opportunity to perform field research in the salt marshes of Georgetown, SC and we frequently visited Charleston, Folly Beach and Isle of Palms. Moving to this area was always a dream of ours and we finally made it a reality. I can’t wait to get involved in the Summerville Community and be a part of the activities on Hutchison Square and the rest of Summerville.
